Pet Food Supplements
Just like humans, there are many reasons to enhance a pet’s diet with the use of food supplements. Food supplements can be used to obtain the proper nutrients, including vitamins and minerals, in a pet’s diet to maintain good health. Factors such as a pet’s age, level of activity and a host of other things will determine what types of pet health supplements a pet needs or would benefit from.
A food supplement for your pet is either something that is given in addition to the regular diet or is included in the pet food itself. Generally speaking, these additions are given to maintain or improve the health of your pet by providing some missing ingredient or nutrient not found in your pet’s everyday food. Conversely, supplements can be used to add additional nutrients that may be in the food but can or should be increased to more effective levels. For example, a senior dog has special needs as the bones and joints undergo stress over time. A food such as Horizon Complete Senior with higher inclusion rates of glucosamine and condroitin can help to promote healthier joints and cartilage.
There are additional health issues that pets may encounter where supplements can assist, including allergies, digestive problems, skin and coat ailments and weight concerns to name only a few. At Horizon, we have done extensive research through our formulations to assure that the supplements that we fortify our products with are in the proper amounts and are balanced for the health of our pets.
