A New Offering for Ontario Pet Owners

Rosthern, Saskatchewan - Horizon Pet Nutrition, an independent, Canadian owned and operated developer and manufacturer of high quality pet foods, has expanded into the Ontario pet specialty market with their “made in Canada” premium pet food solutions, Horizon Complete™ and Horizon Legacy™.

Horizon Pet Nutrition officially opened its brand new, state-of-the-art production facility located in rural Saskatchewan in September 2006. The facility was specifically designed for the production of premium pet food and has been built to strict human food standards. From day one, Horizon has focused on creating innovative, healthy and trusted products with an environmentally conscious approach to all production activity.

Saskatchewan ingredients figure prominently in Horizon’s pet food formulations. “Only about 10% of pet food sold in Canada is produced in Canada”, claims Jason Skotheim, VP Operations at Horizon. “We knew that the raw products available within just a short distance of our facility are extremely high quality and when combined with innovative formulation techniques would make some of the healthiest pet food available today. About 99% of what goes into our food comes from people we know and trust across Western Canada.” 

Horizon adheres to a strict policy of only dealing with producers who employ ethical treatment of all animals and organisms.  “We recognize this as an extremely important part of our business and will always adhere to these standards ”, says Skotheim.

After a strong launch in Western Canada last year, Horizon Complete and the new grain-free Horizon Legacy will now be distributed to speciality retailers across Ontario by Freedom Pet Supplies. “We were looking for a Canadian made product that offered exceptional quality at a very competitive price to round out our premium pet food category as more and more consumers are demanding locally manufactured food of exemplary quality for their pets”, says John Ayres, President of Freedom Pet Supplies. “We see tremendous potential in Ontario with Horizon Legacy and Horizon Complete”.
