Processes You Can Trust

There are many reasons why you can trust the quality of processes that are used to make every bag of of Horizon Pet Food.

Dry Food Extrusion

  • Production parameters for extrusion are obtained during production runs in regular intervals. These are recorded on run sheets and retained by Horizon indefinitely.  These include not only extrusion parameters, but also dryer time and temperature, fat application rates, length of run, and documents any issues during production.
  • A computer-controlled batching system controls and maintains records on all ingredient additions including type and quantity, by date, batch and formulation.
  • Expiry dates and lot numbers are determined and embossed into packaging at specified locations. Batch numbers are recorded on run-sheets and cross-referenced to batching data by date and formulation.
  • Bags are inspected for proper seals.
  • Standard Operating Procedures have been developed and are strictly adhered to with respect to meat handling, equipment cleaning and flushing, equipment maintenance to ensure product and employee safety.

 

Pure Production

One of the biggest challenges facing any raw food manufacturer is ensuring they produce a consistently safe, sanitary product. At Horizon we are very proud of our Pure Procuction facility and of our ability to make a raw food that you can confidently feed your pet.

  • Perishable ingredients are inspected at addition, any substandard ingredients are rejected.
  • Meats are maintained in a frozen state up to production.
  • Production room is kept below 5 degrees celcius during production to ensure that no pathogens can multiply.
  • Due to the frozen meat components, product temperature during production is below 0 degrees celcius during batching, mixing, and packaging.
  • Standard Operating Procedures have been developed and are strictly adhered to with respect to meat handling, equipment cleaning and flushing, equipment maintenance to ensure product and employee safety.
